Welcome to Mr. Boyd's Economics Class super-fun STOCK MARKET SIMULATION GAME!!!

For many individuals, investing in the stock market is a sound, reasonable way to accumulate funds for retirement and major purchases. It is not, however, without risks, and therefore must be approached cautiously. In this simulation, you will trade on the stock market for one month, getting a taste of the serious risks and potential economic gain involved in stock trading while developing your critical thinking skills and financial vocabulary.

You will research, select, and purchase stocks.  This activity will require five to ten minutes a day over a period of one month.  Materials and resources for this simulation include Google Finance online portfolios, a glossary of financial terms, and an Excel portfolio performance tracker.

RULES

1. Each group begins with $100,000.

2. You are not permitted to own stock in more than ten companies.

3. You may not buy stocks priced under $5. (Their extreme volatility is dangerous and not representative of the general market.)

4. You are not permitted to have more than $5,000 in cash after purchasing stocks.

5. Only shares of stock from the NYSE or NASDAQ may be purchased.

6. You must pay a $10 brokerage fee for each purchase.

How to Participate

To buy stock, research the best stocks to buy, then, you will need to fill out the Excel Spreadsheet.   Record the prices of your stocks daily, from the date of purchase until the simulation (game) ends.

At the end of the simulation, Mr. Boyd will determine the worth of each groups portfolios using the current stock prices. The group with the greatest net worth (value of all securities (stocks)+ total cash) wins.
